Project Location Lombok

Key Tourism Area

Lombok is a tourism destination that is typically part of a ‘destination tour’ or a ‘side trip’ from Bali and is increasingly popular with foreign visitors. Lombok is part of the Lesser Sunda Islands, which include Bali to its west and Flores further east.

Lombok has core areas which are the focus of planning and development of tourism infrastructure. These are represented as Key Tourism Areas. Key tourism areas for Lombok that will be developed under the Project are:

1. District of Pemenang

2. District of Tanjung

3. District of Batu Layar

4. Mataram City

Lombok Island has various potentials to be developed into one of the super priority tourism destinations in Indonesia. The potential and advantages of Lombok Island are:

Beautiful Natural Environment

Cultural Attributes

Lombok has high quality landscapes (beaches, hills, mountains and Rinjani Geopark, underwater riches). This potential can be developed in a sustainable manner and managed as a strong tourism attraction for various market segments, especially those looking for an authentic, local, pure and high-quality natural environment experience.

Many tangible and intangible cultural heritage assets were identified. One of them is indigenous peoples and cultural activities that can be developed for culture-based tourism through proper design to ensure a balance between the purpose of preserving culture and increasing added value through tourism.

Location

Human Resource Capacity Building

The position of Lombok Island as a tourist destination is quite strategic. The position of Lombok which is close to Bali can be utilized to bring tourists easily (tourism hub) and form a travel pattern. The availability of accessibility infrastructure such as Lombok International Airport and ferry ports are strategic choices to increase accessibility support, for example the integration of travel patterns with Labuan Bajo destinations.

The population of Lombok, which is dominated by productive age population, is a big capital in Lombok tourism development. The opening of the Tourism Polytechnic (Poltekpar) in Central Lombok increased Lombok's capacity to provide skilled and competent tourism human resources. This effort is complemented by increasing the capacity of the Lombok Vocational Training Center (BLK) to support the provision of skilled labor in the tourism sector.

Roads

Stakeholder Support

In general, the road network in Lombok is in good condition with many roads that have been repaired in recent years. This road network has the capacity to support the current level of visitor activity.

Tourism development in Lombok receives strong support from the Central and Regional Governments. One of them is realized by establishing Lombok as one of the five super priority destinations developed with the support and collaboration between Ministries / Institutions, Local Governments, business world, communities and international development partners.

Mandalika

The development of Mandalika that has been planned will have 12,000 hotel rooms, a golf course, an amusement park, special retail activities, and a cruise ship terminal that will add value to Lombok tourism. Mandalika's development plan is expected to bring in investment from international brands.

RIPT is a strategic master plan for tourism development on the island of Lombok with a focus on the first 5 (five) years in several core tourism areas to leverage the development of tourism on the island of Lombok. The selection criteria for the location of the core tourism area are based on 2 (two) documents, namely: Market Analysis and Demand Assessment (MADA) in 2017 and the Baseline Analysis of RIPT Lombok in 2019. Core Tourism Regions (KIP) or Key Tourism Areas (KTA) that have been identified the MADA will be confirmed again in the analysis of the Lombok RIPT in 2019 which includes policy analysis and regional government input, analysis of mapping the suitability of tourism attractions, analysis of tourism area readiness, and environmental carrying capacity. The results of the analysis determine the Lombok KTA covers the Gili-Senggigi and its surroundings, South Coast and its surroundings, the City of Mataram and its surroundings, and Rinjani and its surroundings.
