Hotel
Accommodation – Yogyakarta
TDA consists of three groups: Borobudur, Prambanan and Yogyakarta City. We agree with Horwath HTL who found that the current hotel demand was met for two of the three elements, namely Yogyakarta and Borobudur / Magelang. Provision of accommodation directly related to Prambanan, which is currently effectively a suburb of Yogyakarta, can be ignored. Of the two accommodation clusters, the most dominant center is Yogyakarta.

Accommodation – Borobudur
There are 7 starred hotels and 44 non-starred hotels recorded for the entire Kab. Magelang in 2016 (the last year figures were available). In that year, foreign tourists stayed an average of 1.37 nights and domestic visitors averaged 1.28 nights, without a clear season but, like Yogyakarta, demand was very high on national holidays. There is a longer note in star hotels, at 1.46 days compared to 1.03 days in non-star hotel hotels. Average occupancy rates are only 39% throughout the year for both categories, with January and June the quietest months for non-star hotels (31% occupancy or lower) and April, July and December the busiest months (respectively shows around 45%), while in starred hotels the quietest months are again January and June (under 30% occupancy) and April, May and December are the busiest months (44% and above, reaching 61% in April).
Even though the City of Magelang is outside the Borobudur TDA, it should be noted that there are 7 star-rated and 12 non-star hotels there, although information about room capacity and occupancy rates is not available. Interestingly, the government office there still uses the old system 'Melati' to classify hotels that are not stars.
Accommodation – Prambanan
There is only one hotel (non-starred) listed in Kec. Prambanan-Sleman, while there are 624 registered hotels for the entire Regency. Sleman (49 stars and 575 not stars). The number of hotels in the district as a whole is explained by the fact that the district borders the northern part of Yogyakarta City and includes the Gadjah Mada University campus and other university campuses, along with many other industry concentrations and malls.
It is very likely that the proximity of Prambanan to the City of Yogyakarta and major hotels in Sleman means that most visitors do not bother to stay here, making it impossible for hotel owners to invest in upgrading their buildings.
Restaurant and Food Catering
Yogyakarta
Yogyakarta in particular has a number of restaurants representing culinary traditions from around the world. Javanese food is famous for certain ingredients and specialties, especially gudeg (made from young jackfruit) and bakpia, sweet filled cakes often bought as souvenirs. The tradition of Lesbian, a roadside stall that sells a variety of foods, where customers sit on mats or low benches, is well established here and is enjoyed by many local visitors and the city's large student population, as do pop-up stalls (informal restaurants) that appeared on the side of the road at nightfall, quickly built from metal poles and plastic sheeting. In 2016 there were 350 restaurants, up from 327 in 2015 and 313 in 2014. However, hundreds of additional restaurants came from Lesbian and various pop-up or food-court stalls.
One of the two tourism-related opportunities in the 2017 'Jogja Investment' report produced by the DIY Cooperation and Investment Agency is to create more destination-style restaurants to increase the appeal of food offerings in the city of Yogyakarta
Borobudur
BPS for Sub District of Magelang has published several statistics for restaurants in this district. Of the 21 districts, only 11 have registered restaurants, with the highest number being the districts covered by TDA.
