KSP: Accelerating the Development of Super Priority Tourism Destinations for Lake Toba Requires Full Commitment
Warta Ekonomi, Jakarta - The Main Expert of the Presidential Staff Office, Helson Siagian, emphasized that accelerating the development of lake Toba Super Priority Tourism Destinations (DPSP) requires full commitment from the local government.
One form of this commitment, he said, is by increasing the portion of the tourism budget to the 2023 APBD. He gave an example, Samosir Regency increased the tourism department's budget by 7 percent of the total budget.
"The central government is ready to help maximize the development of the Lake Toba DPSP if the local government can also give a full commitment to tourism. So, all parties must move together," said Helson in a written statement, Monday (19/9/2022).
Helson said, to accelerate the construction of the Lake Toba DPSP, the government through the Ministry of PUPR has allocated a budget of IDR 85 billion for the construction of infrastructure in the form of a 3.2-kilometer road within the Lake Toba authority area. He also hopes that the readiness criteria or the procedure for assessing the preparatory criteria can be completed soon so that the auction can be held in October.
According to Helson, good infrastructure development must be balanced with the presence of quality and sustainable tourist products and creative economy so that it can provide the best travel experience for tourists.
For this reason, he encouraged local governments to also start preparing human resources that are ready to welcome tourists. Among other things, by implementing education about tourism and hospitality as early as possible, starting from early childhood, elementary, and junior high schools for the district government, and high schools for the provincial government.
"We hope that with the help of the Head of the Curriculum and Learning Center (Puskurjar) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, the Regional Government can compile the local content of tourism and hospitality as well as possible," he said.
Previously, the Presidential Staff Office had held a coordination meeting with ministries/agencies and local governments, regarding the acceleration of the development of Lake Toba Super Priority Tourism Destinations (DPSP), on Friday (16/9).
The meeting discussed the development of infrastructure development supporting the Lake Toba DPSP, the physical development of the Lake Toba authority land, and ensured the commitment of the local government to make the tourism sector a priority.
"This Lake Toba is one of the President's Priorities. KSP seeks to accelerate government programs, especially in the construction of the Lake Toba DPSP," concluded Helson.
